Today, Florida Heart Group, an Orlando cardiology practice, announced that it has been recognized as a “Fit Friendly” Company by the American Heart Association’s Start! Initiative.
The Fit Friendly program was established by the American Heart Association (AHA) as a way to call attention to employers who have gone above and beyond when it comes to their employees’ health.

According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the number one killer of people in the United States, and physical inactivity doubles the risk.
“Because so many Americans work in sedentary jobs behind computers and desks for more than eight hours a day, it’s important for them to be allowed to engage in physical activity like walking during work hours,” said Laverghetta. “Our company makes various efforts to improve heart-healthy lifestyles for our employees while on the job.”
For an employer like Florida Heart Group to qualify as a Gold-level Fit Friendly company, it had to fulfill the following criteria set forth by the American Heart Association:
• Offering employees physical activity support
• Increasing healthy eating options at work
• Promoting a wellness culture
• Implementing physical activities, nutrition activities and one of the culture activities listed in the Start! application form
