Will be Keynote Speaker at Local Parenting Conference
/EINPresswire.com/ CHARLOTTE, NC – Sept. 9, 2011– Shonda Schilling, the wife of retired Boston Red Sox All-Star, Curt Schilling, and author of the New York Times’ Bestselling book, The Best Kind of Different, will speak in Charlotte on Friday morning, September 30, 2011, at a parenting conference entitled Growing Healthy Families.
Ms. Schilling is the mother of a son with Asperger’s and three other children. She will share her family’s story of the joys and heartaches of raising a child with unique needs. “Her story is inspirational for all parents,” said Mary B. Moore, a licensed clinical social worker and one of the conference coordinators. “I think people will be inspired and encouraged in their jobs as parents.”
Joining Ms. Schilling at the day-long conference are more than two dozen other speakers, including Dr. Craig Pohlman, author of How Can My Kid Succeed in School?”; Dr. Frank Gaskill, author of Max Gamer, a graphic novel about a boy with Asperger’s who uses his special abilities to become a superhero; and Dr. Dave Verhaagen, author of Parenting the Millennial Generation. Drs. Stephanie Richter and Andy Shulstad, both pediatricians at Charlotte Pediatric Clinic who were both named among Charlotte’s Top Doctors in Charlotte Magazine, will also be presenting.
The conference is all day on Friday, September 30 at Church at Charlotte at the intersection of Colony and Carmel Road, and is sponsored by Southeast Psych.
