Macworld and Consumer Electronics Show keep geeks in good mood

Come Monday, San Francisco will be all set to host Macworld a hotspot for tech geeks. The months of January have tech geeks on their toes competently occupied with two of the biggest shows in the nation Macworld and the Consumer Electronics Show. Geeks can treat themselves to a host of goodies before they hit the markets.

Every year Apple’s Steve Jobs and Microsoft’s Bill Gates present their keynote addresses at Macworld and CES respectively. This year will be different, as neither of the top bosses of these highflying technology companies would deliver any keynote address. With the nation’s economy facing a crisis, no new announcements can be expected, analysts report.

Steve Baker an analyst with market research firm NPD Group feels everything will be showcased on a low note this year. While visitors at the CES cannot expect a keynote address from Steve Jobs, analysts expect Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing to replace the big man and offer the keynote on Tuesday. This will be the last year for Apple at the show. They will not be making a presentation from next year.

Mac world will see the last of Apple at its show after 2009. The CEO of CES Gary Shapiro feels the lack of space could be the reason for the show not attracting many visitors. Bill Gates is not expected at the show either, which also could be another reason for a poor turnout.

Apple is expected to announce updates of it’s iMac consumer desktops, along with a smaller version of the iPhone at Macworld. CES will see the launch of Palm’s latest Nova OS and Microsoft’s Windows 7.
