The national voter survey and focus groups, commissioned by More Perfect, examined voters’ opinions on concerns, health and improving democracy.
WASHINGTON, November 4, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — A new bipartisan More Perfect Poll shows that 86% of voters say our democracy faces very serious threats, with an almost even split between Democrats and Republicans. But despite the country’s bitter partisan divisions, nearly half of all voters (47%) believe that improved access to trustworthy news and information is one of the most important ways to improve democracy, ranking it first or second. However, among the options tested, voters have the least confidence that the US could achieve this.
“American voters are concerned about the health of our democracy at a time of national division,” he said John Bridgeland, CEO of More Perfect. “Happily, they share strong views on what might help.”
These results reflect similar concerns from bipartisan leaders, including President Biden on Wednesday as we near the midterm elections. The poll and focus groups offer further insights into beliefs, concerns and hopes for our democracy that may guide us through the uncertain election fallout. Other important results of the research are:
- 72% of American voters rate the health of American democracy as poor and many agree these are top concerns: too much money in politics (64%), political corruption (61%) and too much biased information and misinformation (58%).
