NEW YORK, November 2, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Acclaimed playwright and screenwriter Lynn Nottage is the recipient of The City College of New York Langston Hughes Medal. The first woman in history to win two Pulitzer Prizes for Drama receives the Langston Medal CCNY’s 44th Annual Langston Hughes Festival on February 9, 2023.
The medal is awarded to highly respected writers from across the African American diaspora. It recognizes awardees for their impressive works in poetry, fiction, drama, autobiography, and critical essays that help celebrate the memory and tradition of Langston Hughes. Previous award winners include:

- Gwendolyn Brooks;
- Tony Morrison;
- August Wilson;
- Maya Angelou;
- Octavia Butler;
- ZadieSmith;
- Michael Eric Dyson;
- Rita Dove; and
- Jamaica Kincaid.
Nottage received her first Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2009 for her play Ruined. She was awarded a historic second Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2017 for her play “Sweat,” and remains the only woman to have won two Pulitzer Prizes in the drama category.
