BEIJING, November 1, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — China has welcomed the first foreign leader to visit the country since the conclusion of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party China (CPC) — General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong.
Trong is on an official visit to China at the invitation of Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and Chinese President China what began on 30th of October.
During their talks on Monday, the two heads of state and government promised joint efforts to promote the China–Vietnam comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership in the new era to a new level.
A visit that bears witness to firm friendship
Noting that Trong is the first foreign leader he has met since the CPC’s 20th National Congress and that this is Trong’s first overseas trip since the CPC’s 13th National Congress, Xi said it shows the great importance that the two sides attach the two countries and the two parties to the development of relations between them.
Xi also presented the Friendship Medal of People’s Republic of China (PRC) to Trong, saying the medal represents the deep friendship of “comrades and brothers” between them China and Vietnam.
The prize is given to those who support the modernization of the country and promote exchanges between them China and the world and maintaining world peace.
Trong said he has fulfilled his promise to Xi that he would visit him China for his first international visit after his re-election as Secretary General of the CPV in January 2021.
Five years ago, in November, Xi voted Vietnam as his first overseas destination after the 19th CPC National Congress.
The Vietnam News Agency said that Trong’s trip was a mutual visit aimed at “confirming Vietnams consistent policy of emphasizing relationships to China as a top priority.”
