Member participation is critical to a successful agreement covering 1,000 bus workers
WASHINGTON, October 31, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Teamsters voted overwhelmingly to ratify the Illinois Cooperative Agreement (ICA), which includes nearly 1,000 school bus drivers and attendants from the North American Central School Bus. The agreement that includes members in Illinois, Iowa, Kansasand Texasvalid until September 30, 2027.
“This agreement brings the Teamsters together under a single, national standard at every North American central school bus yard for the first time,” he said Sean M. O’Brien, Teamsters General President. “This could not have happened without grassroots participation in the negotiation committee. Committed and militant members are exercising their leadership to win strong national treaties, and the Teamsters and labor movement are better off.”
“Congratulations to these employees for staying engaged throughout this process,” he said Matt Taibi, Head of Teamsters’ Passenger Transportation Division and International Vice President of the Eastern Region. “They have worked hard to secure a collective bargaining agreement that reflects how valuable they are to the communities they serve. This is a milestone in our ongoing fight to consistently protect the wages, benefits and retirement of school bus workers North America.”
The ICA includes additional protections for members with disabilities, additional safety language in light of the pandemic, and the establishment of a joint union/employer committee to resolve disputes. Specifically, it is the Company’s first contract to include members’ participation in the Teamsters National 401(k) plan with mandatory employer contributions.
