NEUBURG ON THE DANUBE, Germany, October 26, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The next important milestone on the way to the FIA Formula 1 World Championship has been reached: Audi has selected Sauber as a strategic partner for the project and is planning a stake in the Sauber Group. As part of the partnership, the traditional Swiss racing team will compete as an Audi works team from 2026 with the engine developed by Audi for the premier class of motorsport.
After the announcement of the Formula 1 entry at the end of August, the commitment of the strategic partner Audi marks the next milestone in the company’s entry into the premier class of motorsport. With around 30 years of racing experience, Sauber is one of the most renowned and traditional teams in Formula 1. While the engine is being built at Audi’s motorsport competence center in Neuburg an der Donau, Sauber will develop and manufacture the racing car there at the Hinwil site (Switzerland). Sauber will also be responsible for planning and running race operations.
“We are very pleased to have won such an experienced and competent partner for our ambitious Formula 1 project,” says Dr Oliver Hofman, Member of the Board of Management for Technical Development at AUDI AG. “We already know the Sauber Group with its state-of-the-art facility and its experienced team from previous collaborations and are convinced that together we will form a strong team.” For example, Audi sports used the high-tech wind tunnel of the Sauber Group in Hinwil, just four hours’ drive away, during the successful Le Mans era and during the development of the Class 1 touring car for the DTM.
