
Russian President Wladimir Putin‘s army is ready to work in case of radioactive contamination nuclear attack.
What happened: Charged after the Kremlin Kyiv to detonate a “dirty bomb”. Russia said Monday it had prepared its armed forces to work in conditions of radioactive contamination.
The head of the Russian nuclear, biological and chemical protection troops, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillovtold the media that Kyiv wants to portray Russia as “nuclear terrorists”.
“The Ministry of Defense organized work to counter possible provocations from the Ukrainian side: forces and resources were put on readiness to perform tasks in conditions of radioactive contamination,” said Kirillov, reported Reuters.
This came after the Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu Raised the specter of radiological warfare during talks with Western defense chiefs on Sunday when he claimed Ukraine was preparing to deploy a “dirty bomb”.
The US and its allies strongly condemned Russia’s comments and dismissed claims that Kyiv was building or planning to use a dirty bomb. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Moscow could plan such an attackwhich could be a sign that it could blame Kyiv for the attack.
Putin’s foreign minister Sergey Lavrov Was dismissive of their replies, saying: “The unfounded denials of our Western colleagues, who say that all this is fiction and that Russia itself plans to do something similar, only to later blame the Zelenskyi regime – this is not serious Conversation.”
A senior defense official also said the US “saw nothing to suggest the Russians made a decision to use nuclear weapons” in Ukraine. He added that the US believes Putin is “keeping the lines of communication open” after the Kremlin requested a meeting between US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and the Russian defense minister on Sunday.
