
employees at curaleaf‘s KURLF EdgewaterNJ., pharmacy have voted to organize as members from United Food and Trade Workers. The Curaleaf site in Edgewater originally served only Medical marijuana patientsbut now also serves that adult market. Nationwide, Curaleaf operates 134 local dispensaries and 26 cultivation sites in 22 states.
“Votes like this will prosper the cannabis economy in New Jersey for years to come. A whole new generation of workers are discovering that unions play a crucial role in balancing the needs of workers, communities and employers, and they want to be part of it,” he said Hugo Giordano, UFCW Local 360 head of the organization. “And when we consider the recent decision to pardon people convicted of ‘simple possession’, it’s clear that the mission to protect cannabis workers in their workplaces and create a fair and just industry that supports family-sustaining jobs is serious progress is taken.”
Curaleaf describes itself as a company of leaders, community members and responsible employers. With the Edgewater site’s decision to join UFCW Local 360, Giordano says these claims become even stronger and more tangible.
Numerous pharmacies have unionized since the beginning of the year and the ‘union building pace’ does not seem to be slowing down. In September workers at the Cresco Laboratories‘ CRLBF Sunnyside Pharmacy in Schaumburg, Illinois voted to join Teamsters Local 777, while workers at the verily TCNNF north shore Medicinal Cannabis Dispensary voted to join UFCW Local 1776.
In August, pharmacies Lume cannabis in Monroe, Rising up wellbeing AAWH In Boston and veranos VRNOF zen leaf near Pilsen all was unionized. And this list includes only the most recent union organizations.
