president Joe Biden on Wednesday accused Russian President Wladimir Putin to resort to the brutal treatment of Ukrainians during his war in Kyiv.
What happened: In answering a reporter’s question about the imposition of martial law in parts of Ukraine, Biden said Putin is “in an incredibly difficult position.”
“I think Vladimir Putin is in an incredibly difficult position and what reflects for me is that the only tool he has at his disposal is to brutalize individual citizens in Ukraine in order to intimidate them into surrendering ‘ Biden told reporters at the White House.
Why it matters: This happened after Putin signed a decree imposing martial law in the Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine: Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk and Zaporizhia annexed in mock referendums last month.
Meanwhile, reports suggest so Biden and his Russian counterpart Putin could cross paths during the G-20 summit next month in Indonesia, and the Biden administration is doing everything it can to avoid that scenario. However, the White House has refuted allegations and press secretaries Karine Jean Pierre said: “These reports are not accurate. They are not true.”
