Tesla Inc TSLA is working hard to expand both Gigafactory Berlin and Texas to massively increase their vehicle production capacity. But even with both factories ramping up, Tesla is still struggling to make enough vehicles to meet high demand.
How shared by The edgeit seems Foxconn HNHPFproducer of Apple Inc AAPL iPhone, hopes to one day help Tesla with its vehicle production goals.
Foxconn chairman and CEO Liu Young-way said he wants to eventually bring the company to a place where it can manufacture electric vehicles. The comment was made during the unveiling of two new EV prototypes, including the Model B crossover and Model V pickup truck. Foxconn has developed these as reference designs to attract companies looking to outsource the manufacture of their electric vehicles.
Foxconn said it currently accounts for 40% to 45% of the total PC and smartphone market share. The company hoped it could achieve the same kind of penetration in the electric vehicle market.
Maybe Apple’s own electrics vehicle could be made by the manufacturer of its iPhones?
