Popular Korean pop group bts announced they would be taking a break on Monday, a move that came as a bit of a surprise and will likely have some fans saying “Life Goes On,” like the band’s hit.
What happened: K-pop band BTS saw their management agency Hybe Co. go public in 2020 and the company could now face a setback. BTS announced Monday that its members would be reporting for military service in South Korea.
“The members of BTS are currently moving forward with plans to complete their military service. Group member Jin will start the process once his schedule is finalized for his solo release in late October,” Bighit Music said, as reported by diversity.
Other members of the group will also follow a plan to complete mandatory military service for the country.
The band will be inactive for several years due to the commitment.
“Both the company and the members of BTS look forward to reuniting as a group following their service engagement around 2025,” Bighit Music said.

Why it matters: The move to military service follows several of the band’s solo projects and now has fans waiting until 2025 for the band to get back together.
Walt Disney Co DIS announced a collaboration to distribute BTS titles worldwide. The band has it too partner With McDonald’s Corp MCD and other brands to attract an international audience for business.
“‘Yet to Come (The Most Beautiful Moment)’ is more than a track from their latest album, it’s a promise of much more to come from BTS in the years to come,” Bighit said.
As Variety reports, requiring all men under the age of 30 to complete military service was somewhat controversial, as athletes and classical musicians can be excused for outstanding service to the country. Pop artists weren’t usually excused.
