
US aluminum producer Alcoa Corp aa asks the Joe Biden Administration to block metal imports Russia after President Wladimir Putin‘s recent military escalation in Kyiv.
What happened: Pennsylvania-based Alcoa believes that “the US government and other countries should sanction Russian aluminum,” the company spokesman said said Reuters.

This came after media reports earlier this week that said White House consider a number of options related to the import of Russian aluminum. It also added that it is also possible to block Rusal, the world’s largest aluminum producer outside of China, from selling its products in the US.
A month after Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, the US Ban on imports of Russian oil and other energy products to America. However, aluminum was then removed from the sanctions list amid fears it could fuel inflation – as aluminum is used in a range of consumer goods and other heavy machinery.
Alcoa spokesman Jim Beck told Reuters that the company stopped buying from and selling to Russia in March. It also applied for that London Metal Exchange to delist Russian aluminum.
