A series about a serial killer is among the streaming giant’s most-watched shows Netflix Inc NFLX any times. Could the success of Dahmer: Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and other Netflix movies help boost earnings and share price?
What happened: Netflix released “Monster” on September 21 with 10 episodes available to stream. The show was a huge hit for Netflix.
In his first full week of streaming “Monster” ranked first seen for the streaming giant with 299.8 million hours. This was the second-busiest week for an English-language series on Netflix, behind only Season 4 of Stranger Things.
For the week of October 3-9, “Monster” had 205.3 million hours watched, ranking first for English language shows for the second consecutive week. Second place went to “Conversations with a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes Limited Series,” a three-part documentary also about Dahmer, which was released on October 7. “Monster” ranked 9th in the top 10 in 91 countries for the week of October 3-10.
“Monster” is the second most-watched English-language Netflix show in the first 28 days of release, with 701.4 million hours, after just 1.35 billion hours for “Stranger Things” season 4. The series overtook “Bridgerton” season 2 ( 656.3 million hours) and “Bridgerton” season 1 (625.5 million hours), although they are not yet available for the full 28 days of tracking.
After the first full week of release, Netflix said 56 million households had seen all 10 episodes.
The series follows the life of Dahmer, a serial killer who took the lives of 17 boys and men between 1978 and 1991. Controversy arose when some family members of the victims claimed they were not contacted about the series.
