“Put such a bracelet on Putin”: Former Russian journalist – Press Release

Former Russian journalist, Marina Ovsyannikovaconfirmed on Telegram Wednesday that she had escaped pre-trial house arrest and fled to an undisclosed location.

Ovsyannikova, who has been under house arrest since August but said she was “completely innocent,” made headlines in March when she protested live at Russia’s state enterprise channel 1 flagship newscast.

Wearing what appeared to be an ankle bracelet, Ovsyannikova posted video to defiantly confirm her escape. The former editor also called for the Russian President Wladimir Putin be arrested for his crimes against the Ukrainian people.

“Dear employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service, put such a bracelet on Putin,” Ovsyannikova said loudly The Washington Post. “It is he who needs to be isolated from society, not me, and he should be brought to justice for the genocide of the people of Ukraine and for the fact that he is destroying the male population of Russia en masse.”

The scenery: In response to her protest on Channel 1, the 44-year-old Ukrainian-born Ovsyannikova was fined 30,000 rubles ($482.70) for flouting protest laws.

Ovsyannikova quit her job The guardand was arrested in August during a lone demonstration opposite the Kremlin on the Moskva River embankment, where she was holding a card that read: “Putin is a murderer, his soldiers are fascists.”

After her arrest, Ovsyannikova was placed under two-month house arrest pending her trial, but managed to escape on September 30. If found guilty, Ovsyannikova faced up to 10 years in prison for the offense of discrediting the Russian military.

“I consider myself completely innocent, and since our state refuses to comply with its own laws, I refuse to comply with and exempt myself from the coercive measure imposed on me as of September 30, 2022,” Ovsyannikova said in the video.
