First and foremost, a proactive approach to maintaining your stove will help ensure that it reliably and consistently delivers heat throughout the fall, winter, and early spring. It also means you’re breathing cleaner air, which is even more important when you’re likely to be spending more time indoors.

Finally, proper care of your stove can save you money – potentially a significant amount of money. That’s because identifying and fixing minor problems (or having a technician fix them) costs a lot less than major repairs, replacing parts or components, etc. before they develop into major problems with the heating system.

Ensure your comfort and avoid unexpected heating system costs

The five steps below will take a little time and effort, but it’s worth it as your stove will keep your home or business wonderfully warm on cold days and nights. And late summer or early fall is the perfect time to give your stove some attention.

1. Check the air filters in your heating system. Furnace air filters do a great job of trapping dust, dirt, and other contaminants in the air when they are clean. First, as the air works its way through and around the clog, it can carry particles with it, meaning you’re breathing dirtier air. And secondly, a clogged furnace air filter will make your heating system work harder, which can put a strain on its components.
