A new Gallup poll shows Americans have record-low levels of trust on some issues. Trust in religion and Congress fell sharply in June compared to a year earlier.
An item that is not a favorite of Tesla Inc TSLA chairman Elon Musk wasn’t on the list.
What happened: Every year since 1973, Gallup has measured trust in a variety of institutions by surveying Americans. A current survey Conducted between June 1 and June 20, 2022, the study showed that 11 of the 16 items saw a significant decrease in confidence levels, with no improvement in the remaining five items.
The elements that experienced the greatest loss of confidence were the supreme courtlosing 11 percentage points and coming in at 25%, and President Joe Bidens Job approval fell 15 percentage points to 23%.
Americans were the most confident in small businesses, where 68% of respondents said they had a lot or quite a bit of confidence. The value for small businesses fell by two percentage points.
The next highest trust was the military at 64%, down five percentage points from a year ago.
Trust in the Supreme Court (25%), the President (23%) and Congress (7%) all hit new lows.
Confidence in issues such as religion, newspapers, the criminal justice system, big business, and the police was at a three-decade low.
Confidence fell on 15 of the 16 points. The only item that stayed the same as a year ago was organized labor at 28%.
