donald trump said in a recent interview that there doesn’t need to be a process to release sensitive documents when the person doing so is the President of the United States.
What happened: The former president told the Fox News host Sean Hannity, “If you are the President of the United States, you can break the secrecy simply by saying, ‘It is declassified.’ Even when I think about it.” reported The hill.
Trump told Hannity that he had already declassified her by sending the documents to Florida. He said: “There may be a process, but it doesn’t have to be. You are the President. You make that decision. So when you send it, it’s shared… I shared it all.”
Lawyer Akiva Cohen, a partners at Kamerman, Uncyk, Soniker & Klein, tweeted that Trump’s lawyers “are considering kidnapping their client and hiding him in a bunker” after the former president made his comments to Fox.

Why it matters: Trump said in the interview that the General Service Management (GSA) and White House staffers participated in packing boxes as his term came to an end, according to The Hill.
On Wednesday, the former US leader suffered one legal blow to the US Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit said classified papers recovered from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate could be used by the Justice Department in its investigation.
Trump’s claims that he declassified the documents were also addressed by the court, which said, “The file contains no evidence that any of these files were declassified.”
