Elon Musk addressed why Texas was chosen as the location for it SpaceX Starbase facility in a still-to-air CNBC interview.
“We needed a secluded place. It’s a huge rocket that sometimes explodes, so it had to be a remote place,” the billionaire said, according to excerpts from the interview shared by the TV host Jay Leno on twitter.
The location also had to be ocean/sea facing and south facing, he added.
“If you launch east, you use the Earth’s rotation to get into orbit,” Musk said.
That way, even if something goes wrong, rock debris doesn’t end up on people, he said.

SpaceX’s commercial launch site for orbital missions called Starbase is located in Boca Chica, Texas. It is the place where engineers build and develop Starship vehicles.
Musk took Leno on a tour of the SpaceX Starbase. The interview will air September 21 at 10 p.m. ET. Before the episode, Leno will host a live show on YouTube to discuss the interview with Musk.
