After struggling over the summer, Democrats are gaining momentum as the midterm election approaches, results of a Times/Siena poll showed, according to the New York Times.
What happened: About 46% of registered voters said they would vote for Democratic congressional candidates in their districts, compared to 44% who pledged allegiance to Republican candidates, according to the poll.
The survey polled 1,399 registered voters nationwide from September 6-14.
The previous poll, conducted in July, saw Democrats overtake Republicans by just one percentage point, the Times said.
The improvement is due to falling gas prices and the President, according to the report Joe Bidens Success in passing important legislation.
Despite the relatively better competitive position, the Democrats continue to curb high inflation uncertain economy and a President whose Approval rate is only 42%. The rating matches or lags behind the rating of every president who lost control of Congress in midterm polls, the report said.

Trump supports Democrats? The Return of the Former President donald trump on the national stage was one of the reasons for the slight improvement in the Democrats’ prospects, the Times said. Another factor is growing public opposition to the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn a ruling that legalized abortion, the publication added.
If Democratic vulnerabilities currently being quashed by “abortion anger” and “renewed limelight on Trump” are exposed, Republicans could retake Congress, the report said.
“Republicans would lead the race for Congress by six percentage points if they could only win voters who say they most agree with the GOP on the economy,” the NYT added.
