
In a clear setback for Vladimir Putin’s Military, Ukraine announced that its forces had liberated more than 30 settlements in the Kharkiv region as part of a counter-offensive against the Kremlin.
What happened: President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyysaid in a video address his troops had retaken more than 1,000 square kilometers (385 sq mi) of territory in the Kharkiv region to the east and Kherson to the south over the past week.
“Our army, intelligence and security services are conducting active operations in multiple theaters of operations. They are doing this successfully,” he said.
The Ukrainian breakthrough came a week after Kyiv announced the start of its long-awaited counteroffensive in the city of Kherson.
The head of the Russian-backed Kharkiv region administration also acknowledged that part of their front line in Kharkiv had collapsed. “The enemy is being held up as much as possible, but several settlements have already come under the control of Ukrainian armed formations.” Vitaly Ganchev said acc Reuters.
Meanwhile the Russian President Putin is alleged confronted with growing dissent from his allies while the Ukraine war is in its seventh month.
