
Condolences and tributes were poured in from around the world after the UK’s longest reigning Queen, Elizabeth II, passed away on Thursday at the age of 96.
What happened: Soon after Buckingham Palace announced the Queen’s death, various political leaders, country heads and many influential figures offered their respects, including the US President Joe Biden, Elon Muskrussian president Wladimir PutinIndian Prime Minister Narendra ModiUN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and many more.
Even the common people of Britain mourned the Queen. Corresponding Reuters, thousands of British residents gathered outside Buckingham Palace in central London on a rainy London night, and many paid floral tributes outside the palace gates. Similar scenes were also seen outside the royal Windsor Castle.

US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden issued a statement saying the “legacy of the late monarch will figure prominently in the pages of British history and in the history of our world”.
“Queen Elizabeth II was a stateswoman of unmatched dignity and steadfastness, who deepened the foundations of the alliance between Britain and the United States. She helped make our relationship special,” said US leaders.
The newly elected Prime Minister of the United Kingdom addresses the media outside 10 Downing Street Liz Truss said the Queen was the “rock on which modern Britain was built”.
“Queen Elizabeth II gave us the stability and strength we needed through thick and thin. She was the spirit of Britain – and that spirit will live on… It’s a day of great losses but Queen Elizabeth II is leaving a great legacy,” she added.
