What happened: That Supreme People’s Assembly of North Korea held its first session on Wednesday and introduced legislation on landscaping and rural development, state media KCNAWatch reported.
The new laws would help advance Kim’s ruling party’s efforts to “bring about a radical change in the rural community and its landscape policies, to achieve rapid development of the Korean-style socialist rural community and to polish the country into a beautiful and civilized socialist.” Fairytale land,” the report said, citing a MP’s speech to the assembly.
The isolated nation’s supreme leader, who did not attend the parliamentary session, has vowed to improve North Korean livelihoods and boost rural development amid deepening economic crises caused by COVID-19 lockdowns and Western sanctions over his nuclear weapons program.
