HOUSTON, September 7, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Commercial space leader Axiom Space announced today that it has received its first order from NASA’s Contract for extravehicular activity services (xEVAS). Under the terms of task order, which has a base value of $228.5 millionthe Houston-based company will build the space agency’s next-generation astronaut spacesuits to support the Artemis lunar missions. The new space suits axiom space will equip astronauts with advanced capabilities for space exploration while providing NASA commercially developed human systems needed to access, live and work in microgravity and on and around the Moon.

This is the first work order to be awarded under the fixed-price Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) Contract, which spans a 10-year order period and allows for an additional two years of service delivery. Permission to perform work under the xEVAS contract is granted through the issuance of NASA contract orders, which may not be exceeded $3.1 billion with a cap of $3.5 billion for all services.
