Here are the latest developments in the war in Ukraine:
– Grain crisis deal in sight –
Ukraine and Russia will sign a deal to unblock grain exports and ease a global food crisis.
Up to 25 million tons of wheat and other grains have been blocked in Ukrainian ports by Russian warships and landmines laid by Kyiv to stave off a feared amphibious attack.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is due to arrive in Turkey for the signing ceremony of the Grains Agreement at Istanbul’s lavish Dolmabahce Palace on the Bosphorus.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s spokesman Ibrahim Kalin tweeted that the deal will be signed in Istanbul on Friday under the auspices of Turkish leader Guterres and Ukrainian and Russian delegations.
– Reopening of the Russian gas pipeline –
Russia restores critical gas supplies to Europe through Germany via Nord Stream pipeline after 10-day maintenance
Germany, which is heavily dependent on Russian gas, had feared Moscow would not reopen the pipeline after the planned work, accusing Moscow of using energy as a “weapon”.
However, there are suspicions that the Kremlin will unleash an energy crisis on the continent this winter.
– Strikes in Kharkiv, Kramatorsk –
According to the public prosecutor’s office in Kharkiv, three people were killed and 23 others injured in a Russian rocket attack.
In Kramatorsk, in eastern Ukraine’s Donbass region, where some of the fiercest fighting took place, a school that Ukrainian officials said was used as a food aid warehouse was also attacked.
– Separatist regions block Google –
Pro-Russian authorities in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk People’s Republic say they have blocked Google, accusing the US giant of promoting “violence against Russians”.
Neighboring Lugansk People’s Republic blocked Google on Thursday.
