Here are the latest developments in the war in Ukraine:

– Selenskyj dismisses senior prosecutor, chief of security –

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has fired Attorney General Iryna Venediktova and security chief Ivan Bakanov over what he calls treacherous actions by numerous security officials.

In a national address, he says 60 officials who remained in the now Russian-occupied territories are “working against our state” for Moscow.

He says authorities are investigating a total of over 650 cases of alleged treason and aiding and abetting the enemy.

The extent of the alleged collusion raises “very serious questions” about the leadership of the security authorities, he says and promises: “Every such question will be answered.”

– EU meets on new Russia sanctions –

EU foreign ministers meet to discuss imposing further sanctions on Russia, including the possibility of banning gold purchases from the country.

The EU has so far approved six packages of sanctions against Russia. The latest, passed in June, imposed a ban on most Russian oil imports. Aside from targeting gold, the bloc is also considering sanctioning more Russian officials.

“Moscow must continue to pay a high price for its aggression,” said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

– H&M leaves Russia –

Swedish fashion retailer H&M said it had decided to end its operations in Russia after suspending all sales there in March.

“After careful consideration, we consider it impossible to continue our business in Russia given the current situation,” said Helena Helmersson, CEO of H&M Group, in a statement.

H&M has around 6,000 employees in Russia and has been operating in the country since 2009.

– Russian TV protester arrested –

Russian journalist Marina Ovsyannikova, who rose to global prominence in March after interrupting a live Russian television program to denounce the country’s invasion of Ukraine, has been briefly arrested for a second time.

Ovsyannikova famously stormed onto the set of Channel One’s evening news program in the early days of the war, holding a sign that read ‘No War’.

She was briefly detained and spent a few months abroad before returning to Russia in July.

On Friday she posted photos of herself staging a new anti-war protest and was arrested again two days later but released hours later.

Her lawyer, Dmitri Zakhvatov, said she was accused of “discrediting” the army.

– UK defense chief slams ‘wishful thinking’ over Putin’s health –

He dismisses speculation that Russian President Vladimir Putin is ill or murdered as “wishful thinking.”

“President Putin has been able to crush any opposition, we see a hierarchy invested in President Putin and therefore nobody at the top has the motivation to challenge President Putin,” Admiral Tony Radakin told the BBC, lamenting a ” bleak” prospect.
