WASHINGTON, DC, July 18, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The Cancer Support Community (CSC) is joining its CSC and Gilda’s Club network partners in launching a new social media campaign, #GetScreened, to help people Encourage them to make a promise to get their routine cancer screenings and urge their friends and families to do the same.
The #GetScreened initiative is in response to the White House’s Cancer Moonshot relaunch, in which the President and First Lady announced a call to action to prioritize the return to routine cancer screening. It is estimated that almost 10 million screenings have been missed during the course of the pandemic. Routine checkups are an important part of a person’s health care. Missed screening tests can result in cancer being detected and diagnosed at a later, more advanced stage.
“[Had] I didn’t have the screenings, I wouldn’t have found it,” said Jennifer, who was diagnosed with breast cancer after a routine mammogram. “It was so deep down and I had no other signs or symptoms. So I was thankful that I could have a mammogram to diagnose it quickly and get started on my treatment quickly, and right now I’m cancer free.”
To encourage a return to routine screening, CSC, along with its network partners, will promote the pledge during the week of July 25, 2022. People are directed to a specially designed landing page that also serves as an educational center for information and assistance with routine checkups.
Awareness and support are an important aspect of the #GetScreened campaign as people affected by cancer often experience stress such as anxiety and depression.
