A Danish amusement park said on Friday it had closed a roller coaster ride a day after an accident that killed a young girl and 14 years after four other people were injured in another incident.
The Cobra ride had propelled thrill-seekers at speeds of up to 70 kilometers per hour (44 miles per hour) in the country’s second largest city, Aarhus. The ride is now closed for good.
“After the accident in 2008 and now this one in 2022, we no longer have confidence that the attraction is safe enough to continue,” said Henrik Ragborg Olesen, director of Tivoli Friheden theme park.
The fatal accident happened on Thursday afternoon when a car broke away, killing a 14-year-old girl from Copenhagen and injuring a 13-year-old boy, police said.
An investigation into the 2008 accident, which seriously injured four people, found a design flaw in the Italian-designed 400-metre-long and 25-metre-tall Cobra ride.
The park Tivoli Friheden should remain closed until Monday.
