MONACO, July 11, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Innovation, progression and sustainability: these are the yachting industry’s goals as it works towards a more responsible future, spearheaded by initiatives launched by the Yacht Club de Monaco under the Monaco Capital of Advanced umbrella Sailing will be encouraged. “Monaco,” emphasizes Jean-Marc Bolinger, CEO of MB92, “can play a significant role in the further development of the industry as a whole. It is a very significant hub that has a major impact on the industry and can make a difference. Now there is an understanding that sailing needs to change. There is no doubt that sailing can be a model for the rest of the industry. Yachting has, to some extent, the time and money to drive change and we believe it absolutely must be done.”
Among the measures taken to raise awareness of carbon emissions figures is the SEA Index. This tool, developed by the Yacht Club de Monaco and Credit Suisse, rates the energy intensity of superyachts over 40 meters on a scale of 0 to 5. “Very little data is needed: we only need it,” says Natalie Quevert, director of Sea Index Project , “the gross tonnage, the power of the engines and the generators. With the SEA Index tool, superyacht owners get a visual snapshot of their yacht’s carbon intensity.”
“As part of the yachting industry,” adds Paris Baloumis Oceanco Group Marketing Director, “we want to break away from our dependency on fossil fuels. If you are truly authentic about sustainability, you need to look at the whole process.
