A kid with extraordinarily long ears has become something of a media star in Pakistan, and its owner claims a world record that may or may not exist.
Simba is now living a spoiled existence in Karachi, where he was born last month with noticeably long ears – and has continued to grow to reach 54 centimeters (21 inches).
Breeder Mohammad Hasan Narejo says he has contacted Guinness World Records to see if his charge can be included as the greatest of all time, although a category for “long-eared goat” does not currently appear on the organization’s website.
“Within 10 to 12 days of his birth, he was already appearing in all national and international media – and won a beauty pageant,” says a proud Narejo.
“In 30 days he became so popular that it could take even a celebrity 25 to 30 years to reach that level of fame.”
Simba’s ears are so long that Narejo has to fold them over his back so the little git doesn’t stand on them.
He also designed a harness for Simba to wear the long lugholes around his neck.
Concerned about the attention Simba has been attracting – including from competing breeders – Narejo has resorted to prayer and tradition to try to ward off any ill will.
“We recite verses from the Koran and blow on it to ward off the evil eye,” Narejo said.
“Following a long tradition inherited from our elders, we tied a black thread around him, reinforced with verses from the Koran.”
Narejo plans to raise Simba as a stud farm to promote Pakistan’s image as a leading goat breeding nation.
“Simba’s Pakistani name needs to go around the world,” he said.
