DENVER, CO, July 05, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Today, Global Down Syndrome Foundation (GLOBAL) Provided over $76,000 in educational grants to Down Syndrome organizations in the United States and abroad. Since the inception of the GLOBAL membership program in 2012, members of the GLOBAL organization have been awarded more than $1 million across 235 grants – education, employment and COVID.
This year’s educational grants will fund eleven programs in Albania, Arizona, California, Delaware, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas and Wisconsin. The programs focus on adult medical care delivery, mental health, research and medical outreach, health and wellness programs and more. More than 3,500 professionals, family members and self-advocates will benefit directly.
“We are so inspired by the amazing Down Syndrome organizations we serve and the impactful programs they offer to their communities,” said Michelle Sie Whitten, President and CEO of GLOBAL. “Our affiliates are on the front lines, providing life-changing programs and services to their families every day. The recipients of the GLOBAL Education Grant 2022 and their funded programs are (in alphabetical order):
- Buddy Up for Life, Inc. (New Albany, OH): Buddy Up Fitness will provide eight high-intensity interval training sessions four times a year for people with Down syndrome.
- Coastal Bringing Up Down Syndrome (Wilmington, NC): iCan Swim Camp (Brunswick County) will partner with a local college to conduct five-day swim camps to improve balance, coordination, activity levels, and overall fitness and safety in the water.
- Down Syndrome Albania Foundation (Tirana, Albania): Reach for Health-Support for Adults with Down Syndrome will support the medical care of adults with Down Syndrome and host three meetings to educate the community about the GLOBAL Adult Guideline.
