After the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan, assets of Afghanistan froze by the American banks estimated $10 billion. After the Oslo meeting, Afghan FM Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi wanted to unfreeze the Afghan reserves. Oslo meeting between Afghanistan and UN officials concluded a fruitful decision.
Afghanistan did not recognize by any country after the August US troops withdrawal. US troops left Afghanistan after 20 years. According to Taliban officials, the Taliban regime government gradually gets international recognition. International organizations and countries repeatedly pressurized the Taliban to protect Human rights, especially women’s rights. After many years, Oslo talks were the first meeting on western land involving the Taliban. Norway declared this meeting as a discussion to solve the matters. Muttaqi said we are collaborating with governments intended to give acceptance. Oslo meeting was not held to provide formal recognition; instead, it was provided with a platform to close the Taliban and International Bodies. The international community wanted interaction with the current Taliban government.
In Kabul, several embassies are working to facilitate the people. More countries are going to open their embassies. Any compromise on human rights would be on their terms.
Muttaqi said, “What we are doing in our country is not because we have to meet conditions, nor are we doing it under someone’s pressure,” he said.
“We are doing it as per our plan and policy.”
In Doha Agreement, the Taliban promised the humane rule than the previous rule of 1995-2001. But the Taliban has closed all walks of life for women. This contraindicatory behavior is impeding informal recognition. The Taliban shut education institutions for women after Kabul took over.
Muttaqi, in an interview, said the Taliban did not terminate the previous employers of the US-backed government.
“None of the 500,000 employees of the previous regime, men or women, have been fired. They all are getting paid,” he said.
In reality, many people had lost their jobs. Simultaneously, job holders were not paid for several months due to the economic crisis.
Aid with Conditions
Afghanistan is an aid-dependent country mainly on US donations. Washington froze the assets, which deteriorated the economic condition. United Nations has cautioned the countries that the half population of Afghanistan is facing hunger and food shortage problems with poverty. Washington emphasized the Taliban to ensure Human rights and counter-terrorism steps. After the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, the Taliban usurped women’s rights by limiting them within the house’s boundary wall. Muttaqi denied the allegations related to cruelty against women protestors. But international organizations like the UN and Amnesty International blamed the Taliban for kidnapping two female journalists and two activists. Taliban officials are investigating the matter.
Taliban should restore women’s rights and limit terrorist outfits to international recognition.
