Pakistan was one of three countries named ‘Forestry Champions’ during the UN Climate Summit COP26 in Glasgow. Costa Rica and Congo are the other two countries.
As a result of this decision, Pakistan will now have the opportunity to advise Asian countries on forestry and green projects in order to successfully deal with the detrimental effects of climate change. The United Nations has handed this job to all three nations, and they will now advise their continents on forestry and green projects.
This programme is being pushed as part of the worldwide effort to address the rising threat of climate change.
According to media sources, Pakistan would lead the Asian area as a green country, sharing its expertise with regional countries concerning highly acclaimed programmes such as the Ten Billion Tree Tsunami project, Clean Green Pakistan, and Protected Areas Initiatives.
According to the sources, one of the primary reasons for Pakistan’s selection as the ‘Forestry Champion’ was its objectives relating to the Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Plantation initiative.
Meanwhile, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam stated, “Despite facing economic challenges, Pakistan has decided to convert coal-based power plants to renewable energy in phases, and talks are also underway with Chinese firms to implement this decision within the timeframe specified.”
“Pakistan will now be part of a network of leaders challenging business as usual in order to pave the way to an environment-positive global economy and end nature loss by 2030,” Malik Amin remarked.
“The government has established the Green Stimulus initiative, which is aimed at stimulating plantation; putting up nurseries and natural forests; encouraging honey fruit and olive plantings; generating jobs; and repairing the country’s natural ecology,” he added.
