A charming entrepreneur, Casey Walsh didn’t start out as a success story. He recalls back in high school when he almost dropped out and had to speak to a counselor regarding his options. Walsh’s father instilled in him the idea of working for himself, and he never considered the alternative but his counselor told him straight to his face that at this rate he wasn’t going to amount to anything and that it was time to consider learning a trade.
“It was a slap in the face,” recalls the founder of Stand Up Guys, but it got him to buckle down and graduate high school. But the real moment of clarity came when he read Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. That was the moment he decided to start a business – at 19 years old.
Prior to his lightbulb moment, he’d already dabbled in removing junk for friends and family while he was in high school in order to earn extra money. Seeing that it was a scalable operation, he dived in with all his savings – all $4,000 of what he had in his bank went into getting a truck for the business. He didn’t even set up a website when he began, he took discarded signs from dumpsters, made them his own, and waited for the calls to roll in. It started off slow and he was parking cars on the side to tide him through it, but after a year, the phone calls were off the hook.
Today, he’s a successful businessman with 56 employees and 7 branches in 6 cities and counting. Stand Up Guys Junk Removal cover multiple cities throughout Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina and Texas, and is looking to further expand through offering growth opportunities to tenured employees.
