IT Education in Pakistan does not Fulfill Industry Requirements, Says President Pakistan Arif Alvi

Out of 30,000 IT graduates in Pakistan, 25,000 remain jobless, says Arif.

“There is so much vitality around,” president Pakistan remarked at the launch of a working paper titled ‘Energizing the Tech Investment Ecosystem in Pakistan’. “While we may believe we have lost some time, I hope we are still ready to get on the bandwagon and show the world what we are made of.”

The president reaffirmed his appeal to promote remote education, saying it was financially viable and might result in an increase in student enrollments.

“The country has not yet adopted the required tools, though some of the progress has been achieved by experimenting with online education during the Covid-19 pandemic,” he added.

He criticized the fact that, of the 30,000 IT graduates produced in the country, approximately 25,000 remained unemployed because “their education did not match market needs.”

Former Japanese Prime Minister promised the government that Tokyo would hire 100,000 IT graduates from Pakistan, but “unfortunately, the country did not have quality graduates,” he added.

He believed that IT grads should not travel overseas for jobs, but instead benefit by working remotely, because the country would lose investment in them as a result of their transfer.

The president, as the chancellor of many universities, stated that he was ordering the schools to focus on human resources.

He stated that the Virtual University of Pakistan had grown its enrollment to 40,000 without the need for a new campus simply by implementing contemporary techniques.

He mentioned that the government had removed the roadblocks identified by Silicon Valley experts and Amazon merchants, which had a significant influence.
