In a recent update, Twitter informed its users that they will be able to get notifications about the spaces their Twitter friends will be attending. Whenever a person is a user’s Twitter friends list will join a space, as a listener or speaker, other friends will receive a notification. The notifications will appear on top of their timeline.
Twitter says that this new feature is now rolling out on all android and iOS devices. With the help of this new feature, users will be more able to connect to their friends and will be able to identify shared interests in the Twitter community. Moreover, Twitter also stated that the effort is to make the experience of spaces better for everyone on Twitter so that people may hear about spaces quite often.
While updating about the new spaces notifications, Twitter took the platform to announce;
“We’re experimenting with ways to help you discover more Spaces. For some of you on iOS and Android, if someone you follow is listening to a Space, you’ll see it at the top of your timeline. You can control who can see your listening activity in your settings. send us your thoughts.”
The social media platform is currently making extra efforts to make the space features recognizable and more useable among the general public. For this purpose, the company has also made major changes in the front page outlook of the application. You must have noticed that now live spaces appear on the top bar of Twitter. Earlier on, users were able to locate Twitter fleets at that place, but now Twitter has replaced it with spaces.
Earlier on, Twitter was only presenting the users about spaces that were being hosted by user’s Twitter friends. With the new features update, users might be able to not only locate hosted spaces but all the spaces their Twitter friends are a part of( whether as a speaker or hearer).
If a user is attending a space and does not want that others to get notified about their presence in a particular space, it is also possible. However, the user will not be able to hide him or herself in the meeting attendees. The feature will only be workable to stop Twitter from sending the notifications of your space joining.
A step-by-step guide to stop your twitter spaces from joining notifications to others:
- Go to the main menu and click on the “settings and privacy” bar.
- Open click on “privacy and safety option” in the settings.
- Look for the option “allow followers to see spaces which you are listening to.”
- Turn off this setting by tapping on the button. Your followers will longer be notified whenever you join spaces on Twitter.
It is important to know that your followers can still locate you if they are attending the same spaces. Remember that earlier this month, Twitter made the spaces approachable through other applications as well. Moreover, hosts were also allowed to make two co-hosts to arrange the spaces more deliberately.
