Mini Goldendoodles Dog Breed Info – 9 Things You Need To Know – By PawsandFurs.com

A complete guide on what you need to about the Goldenpoo, mini Doodles, and Goodles crossbreed: Goldendoodles.

New York City, NY, United States, 03/01/2021 / PawsandFurs.com /

Mini Goldendoodles are the miniature variant of standard Goldendoodles. These dogs have multiple nicknames like mini Goldenpoo, mini Doodles, and Goodles. And of course, they are hybrids that are derived as a result of cross-breeding Golden retrievers and Mini or Toy Poodles.

The mix has prompted the introduction of friendly and mild-natured dogs that resemble small fluffy teddy bears. Their attractive looks and features have made them quite popular among children and families.

History

This crossbreed came to light around the mid-1990s and was bred to have the intelligence and coats of the mini Poodles mixed with the gentility and loyalty of the Golden retrievers.

The ancestry of Mini Goldendoodles can be traced back to their parent breeds. The Poodles are ancient dog breeds dating back thousands of years ago. They originated in Germany and were originally working dogs whose jobs were to retrieve waterfowl for their owner. The French people took a liking to the Poodles and then further refined the breeds into three sizes.

The Standard Poodles used for retrieving waterfowls, the Mini Poodles used for finding truffles, and the Toy Poodles as companions for French nobilities. These dog breeds are known for their active and energetic personalities.

On the other hand, the Golden Retrievers are gentle and loyal dogs who respond positively to training. This breed was first discovered in the 19th century by one Lord Tweed Mouth in Scotland who wanted attentive and loyal retrievers to capture waterfowl. They were officially named in 1920, and their ability to be both loyal companions and working dogs have been crucial to their success as dog breeds.

Golden retrievers were recognized by theAmerican Kennel Club in 1932, and since then, they have gone on to become one of the most popular pure breeds in the world. Therefore, it is safe to say that Mini Goldendoodles are from quite popular pedigrees. The aim behind their breeding was to basically create another Doodle that has low shedding and less dander coat.

Though they have become extremely popular, especially in Australia, there is still no kennel club or breed club registry for these adorable pooches.

Appearance And Size

From their name, the size of the Mini Goldendoodles can already be determined. They are small-sized dogs with wavy hair coats. They have appealing facial features with large expressive dark eyes that may be brown or amber-colored, black noses, and short to medium-sized muzzles. They also have rounded heads with floppy ears that are widely set. Their tails are long and often fluffy or feathered, and their teeth are set and usually meet in a scissors bite.

Their coats are mostly dense, soft, and wavy, or sometimes curly. They can have black, cream, Isabella, fawn, brown, grey, copper, golden, apricot, or red-colored coats. The coat is mostly of medium length, though the most common color of their coat is golden. Their bodies are also in great proportion, and they have graceful legs that often have the prancing signature walk of Poodles.

They are relatively small dogs, but some are known to be a little large or medium in size. Being mini, they are relatively smaller in size, with heights reaching about 17 to 19 inches for males and 16 to 17 inches for females. The males also weigh about 20 to 35 pounds, while the females weigh about 18 to 30 pounds.

Grooming

Mini Doodles are hypoallergenic dogs meaning they do not shed as much hair as other dog breeds and are less likely to cause allergic reactions in people with dog allergies.

However, their coats are quite dense and of medium length, so they need to be properly groomed to keep them looking nice and attractive.

Their coats can be clipped regularly to minimize stress while brushing, but they can also be left to grow freely, though if you opt for the latter option, expect to brush their hairs daily to even out matted hairs, even clipped hairs still require brushing but not as frequent as unclipped ones.

They need to be bathed only when absolutely necessary to avoid depleting their coat and skin’s natural oils and moisture. Tooth brushing is absolutely necessary to avoid gum diseases, bad breath, and dental problems.

Their nails also need trimming once or twice every month. Be sure to use good clippers or grinders while being gentle as dog’s toenails contain blood vessels in them. If the nails are not cut properly, it can result in bleeding.

Their ears should be cleaned regularly with gentle pH-balanced ear cleaners to avoid ear infections and problems. It is vital to always check your dog while grooming for potential early signs of health issues like sores, rashes, tenderness, redness, inflammation, and eye, ear, or nose discharge.

Temperament

Mini Goldendoodles are friendly, affectionate, and curious dogs that are devoted to their owners and love to please them. They also love being around people and may develop separation anxieties if they are left alone for too long.

They are ideal family pets for people with or without children. This pooch is a great companion and also gets along well with children and other pets. This is achieved through early training and socialization as a puppy.

They are attention seekers and enjoy following their owners all around. Goldendoodles are suitable for apartment living due to their small or medium sizes and their charming personalities.

They also rarely bark or make loud noises except to welcome their owner’s home or inform them of a stranger’s arrival. In addition, they are protective of their families, especially when they perceive an attack or a threat.

Health

This dog breed is typically healthy and has a lifespan of about 10 to 15 years. However, there are still some health conditions that they are more susceptible to. When getting a Mini Goldendoodle, it is important to always ask for health clearances that will show that they have been tested and cleared of some particular conditions.

Some of the illnesses that may affect a mini Goldendoodle are:

Ear infections; they might be prone to this condition because of their floppy ears, which trap in moisture. Therefore it is important to frequently clean their ears.

Progressive Retinal Atrophy(PRA) is an eye disease that slowly discolors the retina. An early result of this disease is night blindness, but it may also progress to day blindness and then full blindness.

Von Willebrand’sWillebrand’s Diseasecan be found in both dogs and human beings. It is a blood disorder that affects the clotting process of the blood and often results in symptoms like profuse bleeding of the nose and gums. It also causes extensive bleeding after whelping or during heat cycles.

It is important to take your dog to regular veterinary appointments for regular check-ups.

Training And Exercise

Due to their highly intelligent pedigrees, mini Goldendoodles are relatively easy to train and are generally very responsive to training. They require early socialization with people, other pets, and their surroundings as pups to make sure that they grow up to be well-rounded adults.

They have average levels of energy and, as such, require daily exercises in the form of walks or agility exercises. A total of 30 to 60 minutes of activity daily is enough to state their energy. A total of 8 miles of walking per week is also recommended.

Food And Diet

A mini Goldendoodle is prone to obesity, so it is really important to measure the amount of food given to them. This also goes to say the quality of the food ingredients should be good enough.

The recommended daily amount of food is about 1 to 4 cups of high-quality dry food a day divided into two or three meals.

It is also important to consider the quality of the ingredients in the dog’s meal before purchasing them. Dog foods with animal food ingredients are known to be better than those with plant food ingredients.

Is The Mini Goldendoodle For You?

Some reasons why you should select these amazing companions as your pet are:

1. They are hypoallergenic, which makes it possible for people with dog allergies to be around them. You can have this pet at home without fear of allergic reactions from either your friends, your families, or even yourself.

2. They are cute small to medium-sized pooches. This makes them incredibly suitable for apartment living as they do not require large spaces to entertain themselves.

3.They shed minimally. If you hate picking up or clearing out shed hairs from your clothes or around your house, then you don’t have to worry. These adored little dogs will not only save you the trouble, but they will also fill your home with joy.

4.Their great personality and temperament. These dogs are not fussy and are not known barkers. As long as they are not threatened or put in dangerous situations, they will mostly be quiet and whimper lightly when they are in need of a cuddle.

Buying Mini Goldendoodles

Mini Goldendoodles are hybrid breeds; therefore, they may be more expensive than other dog breeds. Their parent breeds are also a bit pricey, costing about $500 to $2000 for Golden retrievers and costing about $1700 to $2200. You should expect to pay anywhere between $700 to $1500 for a mini Goldendoodle.

You should also make sure to buy them from breeders who can provide health clearances and assure you that they are cleared of certain illnesses.

Adoption of dog breeds is also a safe and good option as many Mini Goldendoodles can be found in animal shelters and rescue homes. Some rescue homes where you can get Mini Goldendoodles are; Doodle Rescue and Rehomes Board, Doods Needing Homes, Poo-Mix Rescue, and others.
