COVID’s devastating impact on the economies of democratic countries everywhere has led to levels of global debt not known since World War 2. This will almost certainly mean tax raises for everyone.
“Each time we buy goods manufactured in non-democratic countries (some of whom actively seek to harm democracy) our cash strengthens those economies even further and continues to weaken our own. This can only mean a future of slashed budgets for infrastructure and services to support our most vulnerable people.
Left unchecked, as more money and jobs leave democratic countries, lower tax revenues and recessions are likely to follow. These often lead to increased unemployment. Unemployed workers not only can’t pay taxes, but become a financial drain on society. It’s a vicious cycle that politicians simply cannot solve on their own. While government now has so many urgent priorities, citizens of all political persuasions need to take action from today to protect their own futures as well as the job prospects for their children and grandchildren.” says HealDemocracy founder Roy Sheppard.
