MOSHI, Tanzania – Zara Tours has been guiding tourists on Tanzania adventures for over 30 years and in that time owner and founder, Zainab Ansell has focused on sustainable tourism and community giveback. Since 2009, when she founded Zara Charity, it has donated countless hours and given thousands of dollars towards projects that include Tanzania’s most vulnerable – orphans, children, women, and porters, as well as environmental initiates such as tree planting, ocean cleanup, well digging, and solar installation.

Past Zara Charity Success Stories

With over a million tourists visiting Tanzania each year and an estimated 35-50,000 of them seeking to summit Mt. Kilimanjaro, it’s no wonder why tapping into the tourism industry can improve the lives of local residents. Mountain porters are responsible for guiding these tourists along different multi-day routes up the mighty mountain. They are trained in altitude acclimation, safety, and are responsible for meal preparation and setting up tents.

Anyone who has climbed one of the top summits in the world knows how challenging and rewarding the experience can be. This year, Zara was once again awarded for their Mt. Kilimanjaro climbing experiences and this has a lot to do with the porters. Recently, these porters, through the MKPS: Mount Kilimanjaro Porter’s Society, received high-quality climbing gear and clothing to ensure their health and well-being during their multiple trips up and down Kilimanjaro.

Providing safer working conditions and offering increasing education, both for their personal and professional life, gives these workers, and their families a way out of poverty.

Opportunity and Invitation to Participate

By improving the living conditions of Tanzania residents, Zara Charity hopes to reduce disease and poverty, and increase education and environmental conservation. To learn more about current projects needing support, visit: https://www.zaracharitytanzania.org/projects
