New York (October 13, 2015) – Mary Seem, a 27 year old competitive rower, set two new indoor rowing records on October 12, 2015 by rowing 251,288 meters on a Concept2 rowing machine for the 24 hour period from 2:01pm on October 11 to 2:01pm on October 12, 2015.  Mary broke the 24 hour indoor rowing records for Women ages 20-29 in the heavyweight rower category (over 130 pounds) and also the Overall U.S. Women’s 24 hour distance.  The previous records were held by Alyssa Fogel from Pennsylvania at 215,820 meters and Cornelia Willis from Buffalo, NY at 244,898 meters respectively.

Mary is a 2010 graduate of Brown University and was a member of the Brown rowing team during their Ivy League and NCAA championship victories in the spring of 2007.  Mary rowed competitively while in high school with the Upper Valley Rowing Club in Hanover. Mary currently lives in New York City and is employed by the Frick Art Reference Library.

Mary also used this event to raise donations for Vinson Aid Overseas which provides eyeglasses and eye care to the over 670 million people worldwide and for Against Malaria, which provides mosquito nets to those in developing countries in Africa. Additional donations may still be made in support of Mary’s efforts at www.rowmaryrow.com.

The event took place at Row House NYC at their brand new location at 269 West 23rd Street in NYC.   Scott Marchfeld, Studio Manager for Row House NYC, who is also a competitive rower and leads classes at Row House, monitored the event and was present for the entire 24 hour challenge. More information on Row House NYC can be found at www.RowHouseNYC.com

The record keeping for indoor rowing events is maintained and managed by Concept2, the industry leader in indoor rowing equipment and accepted authority on competitive rowing events. Mary received support from Vrou, a bottled water infused with the most essential minerals, antioxidants, and electrolytes to power, hydrate and support a healthy lifestyle and by Concept2 which provided technical support to ensure that Mary’s rowing equipment was set up properly for this event.

Mary is a seasoned high performance endurance athlete and, in addition to her rowing expertise, she has also completed both the New York City and Los Angeles marathons in the same year.  She has yet to decide on her next challenge.
