Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Greater Dallas (CCCS) announces Michele Wheeler as this year’s Financial Literacy Champion at its Sixth Annual Purses with a Purpose Luncheon. Wheeler is president and chief operating officer for Jackson-Shaw Company. She has recently been named Outstanding Director of Nonprofits of the Year by the Dallas Business Journal.
Wheeler represents CCCS’s core values of integrity, compassion, professionalism, innovation and accountability in her day-to-day leadership and commitment to the North Texas community. Not only does she have an outstanding professional reputation among her peers, but Wheeler also spends her time serving as the vice chair for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas. Purses with a Purpose is an opportunity to celebrate community members like Wheeler who make North Texas a better place.
The luncheon will feature author, journalist and personal finance expert Carmen Rita Wong as the keynote speaker. In addition to authoring The Real Cost of Living, Wong is a personal finance contributor on MSNBC, CNN and The View, and is co-founder of an all-female financial planning firm. She has been an advice columnist in national magazines including Good Housekeeping, Glamour, Latina, Essence and Men’s Health.
“Even in difficult economic times, we can make decisions to help alleviate the financial pressures in our lives,” Wong says. “CCCS does a great job providing financial education and counseling services to women and families who may not otherwise get assistance.”
A highlight of Purses with a Purpose is the designer purse auction that benefits financial education and counseling for women, their families and outreach organizations. Advocare is the presenting sponsor of Purses with a Purpose, and Bank of Texas is the Financial Literacy Champion sponsor. Corporate sponsorships are currently available beginning at $2500. Event co-chairs are Pat Galas and Liz Galas Hunter, and honorary co-chairs are Susan and John Cuellar.
This year’s benefit is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2015, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Frontiers of Flight Museum by Love Field Airport.
