With its redesign for the 2013 model year, the Lexus ES tested the waters of its brand’s aggressive new design language, but the popular luxury sedan is now diving right in with its refreshed styling for 2016 models. While the outgoing 2015 model dons a subtle outline of Lexus’ spindle grille, the 2016 ES sports a prominent version that covers the full height of the front fascia with its vibrant satin-chrome trim.
Revealed at the Shanghai International Motor Show in April, the 2016 Lexus ES appears poised to build on its position as the luxury brand’s best-selling sedan. Its new grille is complemented by redesigned headlights that now incorporate LED projector technology, while in the back, the taillights have received a new L-shaped theme to mimic the design of the car’s daytime running lights. Lexus has also added rectangular chrome-tipped exhaust ports to its updated 2016 ES, and buyers will be able to pair all of those style upgrades with their choice of four new paintjobs, including Amber, Caviar, Eminent White Pearl and Nightfall Mica.
“As Lexus continues to introduce bolder designs in new models like the NX crossover and RC coupe, it’s a logical progression for the brand to amp up the styling on longtime favorites like the ES,” said Vincent Liuzzi, general manager of Lexus of Watertown, a Massachusetts Lexus dealer. “The refreshed 2016 ES will attract younger buyers with its sleeker looks, but at the same time, those changes won’t alienate existing fans of the car. Because of that, the ES should continue to be Lexus’ best-selling sedan for years to come.”
When it goes on sale later this year, the 2016 Lexus ES will come standard with a larger 4.2-inch TFT multi-information display, while new “Enter” buttons will improve the interactivity of the Remote Touch Interface control on the center console. Buyers will also be able to set their cabin apart with new color combinations, selecting from four seat colors, three seat materials and enticing trim choices like Bamboo in a new matte finish. The 2016-model-year changes extend beyond aesthetics as well, with structural reinforcements and a retuned chassis ensuring crisper handling and a smoother ride for the latest Lexus ES.
