New Jersey – Nobel Prize winner and celebrated mathematician John Nash has died in a car accident. Good Morning America recently reported that Nash and his wife were both killed in a taxi crash on the New Jersey Turnpike. The driver is stated to have lost control before crashing into a guard rail.

Nash was the subject of the 2001 film “A Beautiful Mind,” which profiled his battle with paranoid schizophrenia. The film was inspired by his biography of the same name released in 1998. Nash and his wife Alicia Nash, have been recognized for their mental health care advocacy work.

Nash served as a Senior Research Mathematician at Princeton University later in his life. He was awarded a Nobel Prize in 1994.

Princeton University President Christopher L. Eisgruber released a statement following Nash’s death saying, “We are stunned and saddened by news of the untimely passing of John Nash and his wife and great champion, Alicia. Both of them were very special members of the Princeton University community.

“John's remarkable achievements inspired generations of mathematicians, economists and scientists who were influenced by his brilliant, groundbreaking work in game theory, and the story of his life with Alicia moved millions of readers and moviegoers who marveled at their courage in the face of daunting challenges.”

Nash was 86 and his wife was 82 at the time of their deaths.
