Police seek utility records after family of 8 poisoned by carbon monoxide

04/07/2015 // West Palm Beach, Florida, US // JusticeNewsFlash // Justice News Flash // (press release)

Maryland – Following the deaths of eight members of one family at a Maryland home, police are now seeking to obtain the utility records that show when the power had been shut off there. The divorced father and his seven children were reportedly using a generator to keep warm while their power was out. The generator was the source of the carbon monoxide poisoning that led to their deaths.

The bodies of Rodney Todd, 36, and his seven children were found after police received reports that no one was answering the door.

According to an Associated Press (AP) report, Princess Anne Police Chief Scott Keller said a subpoena has been issued to the Delmarva Power company for the records. In accordance with Maryland law, utilities are not permitted to terminate electric service for bill nonpayment from Nov. 1 through March 31 if an affidavit has not been filed to the Public Service Commission.

The utility is also reportedly investigating the incident.

The mother of the children, Tyisha Luneice Chambers, told the news source, “I’m just numb. I’m just numb. Like it’s a nightmare but it’s not… If I had known he was without electricity, I would have helped.”
