Redesigned 2016 Lexus RX Makes Striking Debut in the Big Apple

Luxury Auto Brand Ramps Up the Style and Safety of Its Best-Seller

As America’s best-selling luxury crossover SUV, the Lexus RX wasn’t exactly in need of major changes, but for the 2016 model year, it has been redesigned to provide even more of what buyers love. Unveiled earlier this month at the New York International Auto Show, the 2016 Lexus RX builds on the bold design language and crisp handling of its predecessor while introducing new advanced features like an affordable active-safety system.

Arriving at dealerships later this year, the 2016 RX features a more pronounced spindle grille and available triple L-shaped LED headlamps, while its side profile is enhanced by sharply flared fenders and blacked-out C-pillars that create a sleek floating-roof appearance. For an even more aggressive look, an RX F SPORT trim will be available for all-wheel-drive models, offering upgrades like an “F” mesh grille treatment, graphite-finished 20-inch alloy wheels and a unique F SPORT instrument cluster. Underneath the hood, the standard 3.5-liter V6 engine in the 2016 RX 350 has been refined to produce 300 horsepower — a 30-horsepower boost from the outgoing 2015 model — and that greater output will be paired to a new eight-speed automatic transmission.

“The sharper exterior design and elevated performance of the 2016 RX will help attract a wider range of buyers without alienating the legion of existing fans who have made the SUV a best-seller,” said Vincent Liuzzi, general manager of Lexus of Watertown, a Massachusetts Lexus dealer. “It will also be more affordable for RX buyers to opt for preventative safety technologies thanks to the new Lexus Safety System+, so they’ll get a luxury vehicle that evokes both passion and peace of mind.”

By combining many of the brand’s existing active-safety technologies into a single package, the optional Lexus Safety System+ lowers the cost of entry for automated pre-collision braking. Among the included technologies are the Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Automatic High Beam. Drivers will also benefit from the newly available color heads-up display and 12.3-inch infotainment screen, while rear passengers will be able to fully enjoy their increased legroom with the newly optional heated outboard seats.
