Philadelphia – A man who was sent to America to be adopted over thirty years ago is now facing deportation to South Korea. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the man, now 39, was sent to the country at the age of three and has since been unable to obtain U.S. citizenship after being abandoned by his American parents.

The South Korean man who has since been named Adam Crapser, was sent to the U.S. with his sister as a child. Both were placed in foster care after things failed to work out with the family they were initially set to live with. The sister was eventually adopted and granted citizenship. He ended up living with parents who were abusive and never attempted to obtain citizenship for him.

Crasper, who is now married with three children, has experienced issues with unemployment, crime, and homelessness in not being able to obtain citizenship and now faces deportation because of his status.

His attorney, Lori Walls, is quoted as stating of the issue, “The state abandoned him when he was a child…Now the U.S. is throwing him out.”

Crasper applied for green card renewal two years ago, which alerted federal officials to his circumstances. A hearing in the matter was set for April 2.
