HM King Mohammed VI declines to have a phone conversation with Nigerian President

03/08/2015 (press release: media1press) // Morocco

HM King Mohammed VI deems ‘inappropriate’ the request from the Nigerian authorities for a phone conversation with Nigerian President, said Friday a statement from the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.

Here is the content of the communiqué:

‘’The Nigerian authorities, through the Office of the President, submitted a request for a telephone conversation between the President of this country and His Majesty the King as well as to send an envoy to Morocco.

His Majesty the King did not see fit to grant the request because the process it would be linked to important elections in the country and might suggest a rapprochement between Morocco and Nigeria, at a time when the current Nigerian government has shown disregard to Moroccan national causes.

The request of the Nigerian authorities is more like a “Muslim electorate recovery act” of this government than normal diplomatic approach’’
