01/16/2014 (press release: media1press)

Morocco will host the 20th session of the Al-Quds Committee on the 16 and the 17 of January in Marrakesh.

Al Quds Committee was created by the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in 1975, and works to defend the Islamic character of the Holy City of Jerusalem.

The Palestinian issue is fundamental for Moroccan diplomacy, which adheres to peace and to protect the inalienable rights of the Palestinians, especially the status of Jerusalem.

The commitment of King Mohammed VI to the Holy City was demonstrated recently by the messages he sent to Pope Francis and the Secretary General of the UN, Ban Ki-Moon, to promote the right climate for peace negotiations between Palestinians and Israelis to succeed.

The permanent interest of King Mohammed VI to the Palestinian issue was also reflected at the summit between the Sovereign and U.S. President Barack Obama held last November at the White House.

In the final communiqué about these meetings, HM the King supported “continued commitment” of the United States “to advance the peace process in the Middle East,” while President Obama “acknowledged the contribution of His Majesty, President of Al-Quds Committee, to the efforts of the two-state solution.”

Since coming to the throne, and becoming Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, King Mohammed VI has continued with as much care and benevolent interest through Bayt Mal Al Qod, an agency that was established in 1998 both Islamic and non-profit institution, on the initiative of his father, His Majesty the late King Hassan II.

The Agency aims to preserve the rights of Arab-Islamic sacred city and improve the living conditions of its people through the support of funding programs in the field of health, education, population, and preservation of religious and civilizational heritage of the city of Al Quds.

At the initiative of His Majesty the King, the agency Bayt Mal Al Qods engaged in several projects concerning the rehabilitation of housing for people in need, restoration or construction of schools, community centers and mosques, as well as granting of scholarships and the acquisition of emergency medical equipment.
