05/08/2013 (press release: NancyCook) // Sarasota, Florida, USA // Nancy Cook

Bonitas International CEO and entrepreneur Kimberly Martinez was recognized as a 2013 Enterprising Women of the Year by Enterprising Women magazine. The Sarasota resident and mother of three is a former Fortune 50 executive who launched Bonitas International, a fashion jewelry company, and quickly built it into a million dollar business.

The Enterprising Women of the Year award is given to women business owners who have demonstrated that they have fast-growth businesses, mentor or actively support other women and girl entrepreneurs, and stand out as leaders in their communities. BooJee Beads, Bonitas International’s flagship line of ID jewelry, celebrates its 10th anniversary this year and is available in more than 4,000 retail stores nationwide.

“It’s been an incredible journey and I am thrilled to receive this award. The mentorship component is so important to me – I couldn’t have done it without the help and support of my mentors along the way,” says Martinez. In fact, Martinez has recently launched a pilot program to mentor a group of burgeoning female entrepreneurs. The group meets weekly to discuss women in business and for Martinez to share what she has learned.

“I have a daughter and I want her to see that women can be strong. We can make our dreams come true whatever they may be,” Martinez says. “By striving to reach my potential and then helping other female entrepreneurs reach theirs, I hope to send a message to young women that they can do anything they set their minds to.”

This is far from the first award for Martinez. She has been a Make Mine a Million $ Business Awardee, a Fortune 10 Most Powerful Women in Small Business finalist and was crowned 2013 Ms. Mompreneur earlier this year.

Along with running a business and a household, Martinez is co-author of two best-selling books, “The Next Big Thing” and “Women Who Mean Business.” Her TV appearances include ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, MSNBC and HSN. She has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, The New York Times, Forbes, Entrepreneur, Smart Money, Reader’s Digest and BusinessWeek.
